Joe Regalbuto is an actor and director best known for his extensive work on television. Regalbuto, born August 24, 1949, is known for his role as Frank Fontana on the CBS television comedy Murphy Brown.
For over 40 years, audiences have been watching Joe Regalbuto’s work as an actor and director in film, television and theater.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Regalbuto was educated at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and at New York University’s School of the Arts. He began his career working on the stage in New York before landing a role on the Golden Globe® and Emmy®-nominated television series The Associates.
In 1988, Regalbuto landed the role of “Frank Fontana” in the long-running critically-acclaimed comedy, Murphy Brown, for which he received an Emmy and SAG nomination. During its 10-year run, the iconic series earned the Golden Globe Award for Best TV Series--Comedy or Musical in 1990. Murphy Brown also garnered 17 Emmy Awards, including two for Outstanding Comedy Series.
In addition to acting on the series, Regalbuto also directed over 20 episodes of Murphy Brown. Since then, he has gone on to direct more than 150 episodes of television including Friends, Veronica’s Closet, The George Lopez Show, Happily Divorced and Hot in Cleveland, “St. George.”
Joe currently lives in Santa Monica with his wife of 44 years, Rosemary, and divides his time between acting, directing and golf.
